I'm desperately searching for drapes for the family room. I am having such a tough time finding a fabric and haven't come close to finding any ready made ones either. The family room is by far one of the most used rooms in our house. I want it to be really cozy, welcoming, kid friendly and not overly feminine (that's what the living room is for, just you wait! ha). Hubs gravitates towards darker colours, so I'm really trying to keep that in mind even though he's given me the go ahead to buy whatever I like. I want something with character, something bold, but nothing over the top. I've tried a few geometric prints, but they just aren't doing it for me.
Then I just happened to stumble upon the fabric that our ottomans are made with. I love it, but wasn't sure how it would work as drapes. This is what brought me to creating a board for the room, which I'm so thankful for because it really allows me to see how the space can look.
The couch, chairs, rug, coffee table (which looks really small in the pics, but honestly, it's the proper size for the space), side table (on the right, not the wooden piece to the left) are all staying. Both lamps are most likely going (hidden behind the purple lamps in first picture). We need a piece to hold and hide hubs stereo receiver (which currently sits ever so nicely on the box it came in). The artwork above the couch has yet to be found, but hopefully we'll find something along the lines of what I drew up.
To the right (out of the picture, opposite wall from the window) is the fireplace with stone from floor to ceiling and the tv is nicely tucked into the corner beside the fireplace on the table that I thrifted (seen in this post).
Okay, here you go!
First up, colour:
Second, keeping it really neutral and simple (two lamps will be replaced and we'll add a cabinet for stereo):
And lastly a different type of fabric for drapes:
There you have it! I've also created a board on pinterest specifically for the family room. What do you think of the drapes in the first two pics? Does the fabric work?
Hopefully I can pick a drapery fabric and order it soon! The rest will come together slowly but surely.
